Compared to the first Summer Parkways last month, there was a light turnout this time. There didn't seem to be much in the way of neighborhood participation but you have to try these things to find out, right? According to Bill Bender, one of those people who gets things done, the Manito/Comstock neighborhood asked that the event return next year. Nice.
Still, there were happy people hanging out, chalk drawings to draw, and faces to paint. How fortunate that Kathy came with me. Barb Chamberlain's Bikestyles booth was at Franklin Park and Kathy found some great looking and practical active wear.
The next Summer Parkways is on Sunday, Aug 14, from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm in northwest Spokane.

Hank, that first photo is of me and my daughter, Dot. We've made every Summer Parkways event so far (this year and last.) We were a little disappointed that the Corbin Park/Riverfront Park path wasn't reused this year, since we moved to the Corbin neighborhood last fall. Today's event was pretty close (although the run up Post kicked my butt a bit more than I'd like to admit.) I snagged a copy of the higher resolution image for my personal collection - it's hard to get pictures of the two of us when we're busy having fun. I hope you don't mind! See you at the next one!
My pleasure, Rob. You're welcome to the photo. I reduced the size for posting here so if you want an even higher resolution copy just shoot me an email.
I was disappointed how many cars were driving down the streets in the Garland-area Parkways. The other two did not have that problem... I'm not sure why so many cars were on the closed streets for just that one.
The South Hill parkways was just excellent. I don't know if it was the neighborhood or the fact that it wasn't on a Sunday morning.
I hope next year they can have more great parkways like that one.
