Encouraging News From The Past

From the New York Times we learn something many people suspected.

On April 10, 2004, the Bush White House declassified that daily brief — and only that daily brief — in response to pressure from the 9/11 Commission, which was investigating the events leading to the attack. Administration officials dismissed the document’s significance, saying that, despite the jaw-dropping headline, it was only an assessment of Al Qaeda’s history, not a warning of the impending attack. While some critics considered that claim absurd, a close reading of the brief showed that the argument had some validity.

That is, unless it was read in conjunction with the daily briefs preceding Aug. 6, the ones the Bush administration would not release.

And to think there were concerns about the economic record of our former president who served in that capacity for eight years and whose name never came up at all during the Republican Party convention.

Encouraging news from Obama's present:

The ninth prisoner held at Bush-Obama's illegal Guantanamo prison has died without receiving a trial. Officials are refusing to release the cause of death. Six previous deaths have been ruled suicide, but without independent confirmation.

Meanwhile, Obama's justice department announced it won't prosecute any high-level Americans for torture, even when they have confessed and made money from writing books about their crimes.

Meanwhile, Obama routinely pulls the trigger of drones on women, children, and untried "suspected" militants (including first responders) in violation of US and international law.

But, that's OK, right? Because Obama is a Democrat, and we only worry about bad things if a Republican does them.

Know what you're voting for, be honest about it, and take responsibility for it.

Why is Obama refusing to allow an international investigation into the circumstances of Adnan Farhan Abdul Latif's death?

Is it possible that Obama or the US military had Latif murdered, as retaliation for the hunger-striker's victories in court? Here's a man held on the flimsiest of evidence, for a decade, an incarceration repeatedly criticized by courts. Is Obama raising a head for 9/11? Gross.

Is this what Democrats mean by "justice"? How exactly is that better than the Republican sense of the term? How is this death an example of American ideals of the rule of law?

Shame.

Well, looks like Latif was the reason Obama told Holder to stop prosecuting deaths caused by torture.

Today, Gitmo's prisoners, tomorrow Chicago's teachers.

But don't worry, unemployed and working class, Obama hopes to use similar methods on us inconvient folks soon.
