Marty Peretz, Editor in Chief of The New Republic, has an op-ed piece in The New Republic today that starts off like this:
There were moments--long moments--during the Iraq war when I had my doubts. Even deep doubts. Frankly, I couldn’t quite imagine any venture requiring trust with Arabs turning out especially well. This is, you will say, my prejudice. But some prejudices are built on real facts, and history generally proves me right. Go ahead, prove me wrong.
Let's take a look at one part here that may tell you something about Mr Peretz.
Frankly, I couldn’t quite imagine any venture requiring trust with (Blacks, Catholics, Polish, Orientals, Jews, Buddhists, Whites, Native Americans, Irish, Women) turning out especially well. This is, you will say, my prejudice. But some prejudices are built on real facts, and history generally proves me right. Go ahead, prove me wrong.
Feel free to substitute any group you wish and then tell people to go ahead and prove you wrong.

That guy sounds like he learned his arguments from my dad. Only Dad would have chosen more colorful names for his groups.
Fortunately for all of us, Dad started growing up a decade or two ago and now his best friend... and the only person he lets ride his Harleys... is an African American lesbian. And she's butch, so it's not even that he's hoping to "flip" her, lol.
Here's hoping Marty can have something of the same late blooming.
