After Pondering Recent Events

A political ad, an excellent essay, and a new law passed in Arizona(PDF) brought some thoughts to mind.

White Like Me

No need to prove your place of birth
Or that you're not here illegally.
Don't worry about the profile fit.
After all, you're white like me.

Feel free to shoulder a rifle
And decry lost liberty.
Don't forget to pack a pistol, too,
As long as you're white like me.

Protest and fan patriotic flames.
Teach us rewritten history.
Hold up signs telling us to fear
Everyone who isn't white like me.

Give me your tired, your poor,
Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free,
The wretched refuse of your teeming shore,
As long as they're white like me.
