Let's Laugh At Something Serious

Parents across the country kept their children home so they would not be indoctrinated by President Obama's speech encouraging them to stay in school, set goals, and take an active role in obtaining a good education. You can imagine the uproar when a politician gets to address school children directly without any parental review of the message beforehand.

In other news today, schools across the country reported an unusual spike reflecting increased test scores and aptitude levels...

Yes, the video is a parody. The real ones were too bizarre. ;-)

*** Update - An example for you. "It's gettin' more like com-muh-nizm."

On a serious note, my son's elementary school did not show the speech in classrooms. I am upset about it. We are going to have him watch it on YouTube before going to bed tonight.

I just can't wrap my mind around people who think "stay in school and be responsible for your own success" is indoctrination. What the heck is happening in our world today?!? Can we get just a *little* rational thought from people on each side? Am I wrong in thinking it used to be like that? Argh!

Shan,

People have a strong tendency to believe that which they agree with and ignore that which they don't regardless of reason, common sense or logical argument. I catch myself doing this all the time. Hyper-partisanship, whether for political gain, influence or higher ratings, takes advantage of that human condition and draws people towards the extremes. Now the people who were already nuckin' futs think they have friends who think like them.

The lack of critical thinking and discourse is severely detrimental to us as a nation.
